Vice President Vance Discusses the SAVE America Act

Vice President JD Vance shared with Vince Coglianese, the Editorial Director of Daily Caller, that he and the president have been engaged in extensive discussions about taking control of the Senate floor to advance the SAVE America Act.

In a recent 30-minute interview aired on Tuesday, Vance, who spoke with Coglianese on the VINCE show, expressed that he and Trump have been “obsessively” strategizing about how to push the SAVE America Act forward and eliminate the filibuster, both of which are key objectives for the president.

When Coglianese asked about potential maneuvers to advance the Act, Vance confidently replied, “First of all, could I assume the chair of the Senate and fire the parliamentarian? Yes, I could. If you have to ask the question, what does that give you? So let’s just play this out.”

He elaborated on the scenario, indicating that if he took over the chair and dismissed the parliamentarian, the real challenge would surface. “Four or five Republicans, at least, and maybe 10 Republicans, would align with the Democrats to overrule the new chair, which is the Vice President of the United States,” Vance noted.

Vance pointed out that some Republican senators often side with Democrats rather than their own party, complicating progress. He emphasized that what they need is simply for 50 senators to “stick together” to move forward with the plan.

“The issue isn’t who is in the chair. The problem lies with a handful of Republicans—we all know who they are—standing with Democrats. We’ve war-gamed this thoroughly. I wanted to pursue this a few months back, but ultimately we decided, the president and I, that it didn’t make sense because it wouldn’t go anywhere,” he added.

Coglianese probed further, asking for confirmation that Vance and the president had met to discuss strategies for this initiative.

“We have obsessively thought through how to get SAVE America passed, and how do you blow up the filibuster?” Vance reiterated. He pointed out that with 47 Democratic senators, if the parliamentarian is overruled, they would only need four Republicans to reach a tie. “There’s your four: Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn, Tom Tillis, Lisa Murkowski. They could overrule the vice president,” he articulated.

Vance concluded, “You might end up in a ceremonial battle that you lose. But the goal is to actually win, meaning we need to replace mediocre Republican senators with capable ones.”

Coglianese responded, “Which is why you’re poised to win the midterms.”

The SAVE America Act has been stuck in the Senate for some time now. Trump had even made a trip to Capitol Hill in June to meet with Senate Republicans over the legislation, but sources suggested that the meeting didn’t help; in fact, it may have hindered progress further.

Sources have indicated that the legislation might struggle to gain the necessary votes to advance. Nonetheless, a White House official mentioned that the administration is considering all possible approaches to make it happen, as this remains a high priority for the president.

Trump remarked on Truth Social, “Our five Republican Senate Holdouts, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Thom Tillis, Bill Cassidy, and Mitch McConnell, must vote to SAVE OUR COUNTRY. There can be no more excuses!”
