Vice President J.D. Vance to Appear on “The View”
Vice President J.D. Vance has announced he will join the talk show “The View” next week, as confirmed today.
The appearance is set for Tuesday, June 16, where he’ll be alongside all six co-hosts from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET. The co-hosts include Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sarah Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro.
During this episode, Vance will discuss his new book, “Holy Communion: Finding the Way Back to the Faith,” which is also being released on the same day. The conversation is expected to touch on the administration’s priorities, goals, and current political topics.
This marks Vance as the third sitting vice president to make an appearance on the show. His announcement comes at a time when Walt Disney Co. is in negotiations with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about whether its talk shows are eligible for exemptions from certain broadcasting regulations.
The FCC’s Equal Opportunity Rule, part of the Communications Act, mandates that if a media outlet allows candidates for public office to use its services, it must offer equal opportunities to all candidates. There was concern that strict adherence might hinder political journalism, leading to amendments in 1959 that sought to exempt genuine news programs and related coverage.
Disney has been directed to expedite its license renewal application, with ABC currently under investigation. Earlier this year, the FCC inquired about “The View” and Texas candidate James Talarico regarding a lack of equal opportunity filings, although ABC maintained that existing exemptions applied. In a follow-up, the FCC requested that ABC file a petition for a declaratory ruling.
The documents referenced by ABC describe the situation as “unprecedented,” referring to a past FCC decision that affirmed the show’s exempt status. However, the FCC has recently issued clearer guidelines, indicating that entertainment programming cannot automatically qualify for news exemptions if deemed partisan or primarily for entertainment purposes.
