Vance Critiques Mayor Mamdani’s Attitude Toward the U.S.

Zoran Mamdani, the mayor affiliated with the Socialist Democratic Party of New York City, could benefit from showing more appreciation for the United States, according to Vice President JD Vance. This remark came during an interview with Fox News host Will Cain on Thursday.

In the discussion, Vance shared that his grandmother, Mummer, a lifelong Democrat, held a deep appreciation for the country. He questioned whether Mamdani expresses similar gratitude, asking, “Is this someone who is grateful for all the opportunities, the incredible bounty of this country?”

Vance continued, expressing skepticism about Mamdani’s perspective. “I don’t know that guy, but my sense is that he’s living a very good life in this country. It’d be great if he showed gratitude instead of focusing on the negatives,” he added.

Mamdani, 33, was born in Uganda to Indian parents and moved to New York City at the age of seven. He completed his education at Columbia University in 2014, identifying as both Asian and African-American on his Ivy League applications. He joined the New York State Legislature in 2020 after only three years in the workforce.

Before his swift political ascent, Mamdani critiqued capitalism, claiming that the essence of Karl Marx’s ideology, which involves “grabbing the means of production,” should resonate with democratic socialist supporters.

Vance also referenced his grandmother’s likely reaction to Mamdani’s rise, saying, “Mummer would say this is crazy.” He noted that she would likely feel that modern Democrats do not represent her views.
