Vice President JD Vance Comments on ‘Woke’ Culture
Vice President JD Vance has declared that “woke is dead,” citing the recent actions of Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico as evidence of this belief.
During an episode of Vince Coglianese’s conservative podcast released on Tuesday, Vance expressed his thoughts on various aspects of the upcoming midterm elections just five weeks away.
‘Democrats are literally running away.’
While Vance acknowledged the recent pessimism among right-leaning commentators regarding the elections—especially considering polls that suggest Democrats have a significant advantage in several key races—he remains adamant that the future of the country won’t be saved by what Thomas Paine might call “sunshine patriots.”
“You’ve got to get in there and win these races. It’s about preventing a lot of extremists from gaining power in the U.S.,” he stated simply.
He also reflected on how the situation might not be as dire for Republicans as some believe, recalling pre-election polls in the fall of 2024 that suggested then-Vice President Kamala Harris would easily defeat Donald Trump and that the Democrats would hold onto control of the Senate.
In a Reuters/Ipsos poll from late September 2024, for instance, Harris had a lead of 47% to 40% over Trump, while an NBC News poll showed her ahead 49% to 44%. Ultimately, however, Trump won decisively, taking both the popular vote and outpacing Harris by 86 Electoral College votes.
Vance, while hopeful that forecasting may once again miscalculate, pointed out there are “headwinds” in play. History often shows that a party controlling the White House, as well as both chambers of Congress, typically struggles to maintain that trifecta during midterms.
“That almost never happens, but this time is different,” Vance commented. “We have a very unique president and a bunch of people on the other side who don’t seem to care about fixing the economy. They’re promising to impose their radical agenda instead, which isn’t what the American public wants.”
In terms of the “extremists” that Republicans need to counter, he specifically mentioned Talarico and Abdul El-Sayed, the latter running for the Senate in Michigan.
Coglianese remarked that Talarico appears to be running away from his previously stated radical positions, especially in light of undercover footage that exposes the extremism present in his church in Austin, Texas.
“I think the specific brand of hyper-progressivism he represents essentially dilutes Christianity to advance political interests,” said Vance. “They don’t actually embrace the core tenets of faith but instead use it as a means to gain power.” He insinuated that Talarico’s actions are part of this strategy.
“I mean, just look at what he’s doing now,” Vance continued. “He seems like he’s trying to present himself as a more moderate figure as election time approaches. If you only watched his ads on TV, you might think he’s practically a Republican!”
Vance suggested that Talarico’s shift could indicate a victory in the ideological battle. “If they have to pretend to agree with us to get elected, that shows we’ve won the argument,” he asserted.
“I have a lot of hope for the long-term outlook of this country because we have indeed won the argument. Woke culture has faded. The Democrats are not just distancing themselves from their previous statements, but doing so out of sheer cynicism,” he added. “It’s certainly absurd, but the fact we’ve swayed public perception is encouraging.”
Talarico, who held a lead in a Texas Public Opinion Research poll in September and was tied with Republican Ken Paxton in a recent Stratus Intelligence poll, has recently retracted his past claims regarding gender and his support for allowing transgender athletes to participate in women’s sports.
A revealing undercover clip showed a chaplain from Talarico’s church indicating that he would revert to his former views if he attained office.
