Vance’s Brief Suspension on Bluesky

Vice President Vance encountered a short-lived suspension from the social media platform Bluesky shortly after he joined on Wednesday, but he made a quick return.

His first post on Bluesky that evening read, “Hello Bluesky, this app has become a place for common sense political discussion and analysis.” In this post, he included a screenshot of a Supreme Court opinion by Justice Clarence Thomas related to the case US vs. Skulmetti.

Vance then followed up with two additional posts, encouraging discussions around Thomas’ opinions.

Before long, users on another platform shared screenshots that appeared to come from Vance’s account. By Thursday morning, the account was back online.

Bluesky later explained that Vance’s multiple accounts had been momentarily flagged by their automated system, which searches for potential impersonation of public figures.

A spokesperson clarified that the account had been “quickly restored and verified, so it was clear to users that it was credible,” as reported by TechCrunch.

Bluesky gained traction last fall, particularly during the presidential campaign that prompted many Democrats to announce their exit from X, a social media platform owned by Elon Musk.

Users cited a “toxic” environment as a reason for leaving, often pointing to various political narratives promoted by the platform. Some believe Bluesky leans more liberal, but there’s a growing concern it has turned into an echo chamber in recent months.

Tech entrepreneur Mark Cuban, who was active on Bluesky last fall, mentioned earlier this month that he anticipates a return of users to X due to a perceived lack of diverse discussions.

“The lack of diversity in thinking really hurts,” Cuban noted in a post, adding that engaging conversations often stemmed from varied viewpoints. “I’m feeling compelled to post on X,” he remarked.
