Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) approached Air Force Two “to inspect the plane” after landing with Vice President Harris at the same Wisconsin airport.
As he told the assembled press what he was doing, Vance also criticized Harris for not answering questions from the press.
“I thought I’d come by to get a good look at the plane because it could be my plane in a few months,” Vance said in front of Air Force Two. “I also thought people might feel lonely because the vice president isn’t answering reporters’ questions.”
Harris’ campaign responded to Vance’s approach to Air Force Two by calling it “bizarre.”
“Just to clarify,” Harris spokesman Amar Moosa wrote, “J.D. Vance has been following VP Harris around the country. He approached her plane today just wanting to talk. And now he’s begging for a debate?”
“This is getting crazy,” he added.
KamalaHQ, the social media arm of the campaign, Also responded Countering Vance’s trolling with a unique TikTok edit.
KamalaHQ posted a video of Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), speaking to children after arriving in Wisconsin, before Vance’s plane lands and a voiceover says, “You hear this annoying, harsh voice,” a reference to a meme by “Dance Moms” star Abby Lee Miller.
Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) We also measured She tweeted about Vance’s decision to approach Air Force Two and mocked the size of Vance’s crowd at the rally. She quote-tweeted a photo of Vance leaving Harris’ plane with about a dozen people.
“Apparently @JDVance brought everyone from the rally to the airport today,” she wrote.
On Tuesday, the Harris campaign posted on TruthSocial It was similar They have criticized the low turnout at Trump Vance rallies compared to recent Democratic rallies.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Chang also commented on Vance’s appearance before Air Force Two. Response to “Please make sure AF2 is thoroughly cleaned up. God knows what Kamala Harris and her team did there,” Vance wrote on X.
“Just the smell on that plane was insane,” Chan added.
Vance has doubled down on those attacks in recent days, even outside of Air Force Two, criticizing Harris for not holding press conferences and other unscheduled events.
“Have you heard any explanation for why she didn’t answer questions,” Vance asked reporters outside Air Force Two. “I hope she changes her mind, because it would be better for the American people and it would be better for you if she were to run a real campaign and not from her basement and a teleprompter.”
“This is truly a disgrace,” he added.
Since becoming the Democratic nominee, Harris has attended rallies and fundraisers but has not given interviews or answered questions at press conferences.
As Vance walked off Air Force Two, a reporter asked him what questions he would like Harris to answer.
“I want her to tell me what she wants to do and explain why her position has changed,” he replied.
He specifically pointed to her past as a prosecutor and her calls for defunding police, as well as her record at the border.
The Hill has reached out to the Harris campaign.
During a campaign stop in Eau Claire, Vance stepped up his criticism of Harris, saying “she deserves to be fired.”
“President Trump and I will go anywhere and answer any question because we respect the American people and instead of sitting in front of a teleprompter and reading from a script and running away from all the reporters, we are actually going to ask them to vote for us,” Vance said.
Vance also called on Harris to attend next week’s debate, which was scheduled when she was still President Biden’s running mate.
“So here’s my proposal to Kamala Harris: If she wants to debate me on August 13th, then do it,” Vance said Wednesday in Eau Claire. “I don’t think she wants to do it again, because number one, she probably doesn’t even know she’s going to be the Democratic nominee, and number two, she doesn’t know who the vice presidential nominee is going to be.”
Vance said he would debate Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), the presumptive Democratic vice presidential nominee, but did not specify a date. He said at the rally that Democrats have “done this bait-and-switch thing before” and would not release a date until both Harris and Walz are “officially the candidates.”
“He exposed a lot of secrets today,” Vance said. “It will be interesting to see if Democrats pull the same bait-and-switch tactics against Tim Walz and Kamala Harris as they did against Joe Biden.”
