Vance-Walz debate draws 43 million viewers

The vice presidential debate between Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minnesota) drew 43 million viewers, according to Nielsen statistics.

Viewers watched Tuesday's showdown on 15 different networks, and the game lasted just under two hours. It was watched by over 30 million households, over 9 million people between the ages of 35 and 54, and over 3 million among those between the ages of 18 and 34.

The most watched age group was those 55 and older, with 29 million viewers.

The debate, hosted by CBS in New York and moderated by anchors Margaret Brennan and Norah O'Donnell, was the first and only debate between vice presidential candidates in the run-up to the November election. .

Mr. Vance and Mr. Walz held a policy-focused debate Tuesday night, holding a civil discussion on immigration, abortion and the economy, among other topics. Despite some disagreements, both candidates also agreed on some issues.

According to a CBS poll, 42% of debate viewers said Vance, a Yale-trained lawyer, won. This number narrowly beats Walz, who was said to have won by 41 percent of viewers. Approximately 17% answered that they had the same score.
