Vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance has explained his “childless cat-loving women” comments, which have become the center of fierce attacks from the left.

In an interview Friday, Vance said he was not attacking women who can’t have children or people who don’t want children.

He stressed that his comments were intended as a satirical critique of the Democratic Party’s expanding anti-family policies.

“Meghan, we have to ask ourselves why we’re still making young children wear masks years after the pandemic is over,” Vance said of Megyn Kelly. “Why are you hearing this morning that the Harris campaign is saying the child tax credit, which lowers tax rates for parents of young children, should be eliminated, Meghan, because they’ve become anti-family and anti-children? I’m proud to stand up for parents, and I want parents to know that I’m the guy who wants to fight for you.”

Vance also said he would fight for policies that pro-family life and are considerate to working parents, and that he hopes to foster a “culture of life.”
