vandals deface homes in Pacific Palisades affected by wildfire while rebuilding efforts slow down

Residents in the Pacific Palisades, who are already grappling with the aftermath of a devastating wildfire, are now facing a troubling new issue: their properties are being vandalized with graffiti.

Those responsible have targeted homes that were destroyed, as well as road signs, trash cans, and trees, leaving behind messages that are politically loaded. Reports indicate that phrases like “Liberate Palestine” and “Eat the rich” were among the graffiti found.

One local, Chris Marcy, expressed his frustration, stating, “It’s just salt in the wound,” while another resident reflected, “I think it’s just hitting on people who are already depressed. I don’t think it’s anyone’s property of any use.”

Interestingly, out of the 6,571 homes lost in the Palisades Fire, only 13 have been rebuilt so far. This tragic fire, which erupted on January 7, 2025, took the lives of 12 individuals.

In response to the ongoing vandalism, a city council member has reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department to request more patrols in the affected areas. Plans are also in motion to meet with homeowners impacted by the fire to support cleanup efforts.

Adding to the disheartening situation, authorities have launched an investigation into similar vandalism incidents in the region. Just last month, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrested two individuals in Malibu for allegedly tagging properties ruined in the Palisades fire. It appears they were found with over 50 cans of spray paint and may face serious charges for property damage.

Officials are taking action, hoping to bring some relief to a community that has already suffered so much.
