Various ground beef products may be contaminated with E. coli: health agency

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) warns that some ground beef products may be contaminated with E. coli.

More than a dozen potentially contaminated products were manufactured by the Greater Omaha Packing Company and included both raw ground meat patties and tubes, according to an FSIS public health alert issued Saturday. It is said that there is.

The agency is “concerned that some products may be in the freezers of consumers and food service organizations” and urged the public not to consume them due to possible E. coli contamination.

The packaging of products manufactured on March 28 must display a “Use/Freeze By” date of April 22 and a setting number of “EST.” 960A. ”

The FSIS alert said there was no recall because the affected ground meat products were “no longer available for purchase.”

“This issue was discovered by the facility while conducting an inventory of product that had been withheld after testing positive for E. coli 0157:H7. “It was used to manufacture ground meat products, which were subsequently shipped commercially,” the agency said.

Both food service organizations and retailers received the meat products, FSIS said.

The type of E. coli that can be found in ground beef products is “a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal pain within 2 to 8 days (3 to 4 days on average) after exposure.” FSIS stated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that more than one-third of the 265,000 total cases of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli that occur in the United States each year are caused by this bacterium.

FSIS said the ground meat products that are the subject of Saturday’s public health alert have so far not caused any cases.

Consumers can either throw the meat in the trash or take it back to the retailer, the agency said.

Greater Omaha Packing produces beef that is shipped to more than 70 countries.
