Venezuelan Hernandez Gonzalez faces charges for assault at a Florida beach

Violent Beach Attack Leads to Arrest in Florida

In a shocking incident, police have arrested an illegal immigrant in connection with a late-night assault on a woman at a well-known beach in Florida. The attacker, identified as Alexander Hernandez Gonzalez, a 26-year-old from Venezuela, allegedly ambushed the victim, attempted to drown her, and then left her struggling in the water.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported that the attack occurred around 11 p.m. at Tiger Shores Beach in Stuart. The victim was walking and talking on her phone when Hernandez Gonzalez approached from behind, assaulted her, and pushed her into the water.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek described the case as “very disturbing,” noting that such random acts of violence can be particularly challenging to investigate. According to Budensiek, “About five minutes after we passed her, she was brutally attacked,” revealing that the victim was grabbed and held underwater as she fought to escape.

During the struggle, the victim lost consciousness. Afterward, Hernandez Gonzalez mistakenly believed she was dead and discarded his phone into the ocean. The woman eventually regained consciousness and managed to make her way to Stuart Beach, where she alerted sheriff’s deputies for help.

Authorities apprehended Hernandez Gonzalez after several days of searching following a report of a suicidal man claiming he had killed someone at the beach. When questioned, he allegedly showed no remorse upon learning that the woman had survived.

Hernandez Gonzalez is currently held at the Martin County Jail without the possibility of bail, facing charges of attempted first-degree premeditated murder. Interestingly, the Department of Homeland Security states he entered the U.S. illegally in 2023 and was granted temporary protected status under the Biden administration.

In a statement, Assistant Secretary of State Tricia McLaughlin criticized the current immigration policies, linking them to the attack. She stated, “Alexander Hernandez Gonzalez, a product of the Biden administration’s open borders policy, brutally attacked a woman on the beach and attempted to kill her by drowning.” She praised the victim’s resilience and highlighted the cooperation between local authorities and ICE to ensure that he would not pose a threat again.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has not yet responded to requests for additional comments regarding the incident.
