Maduro Accuses U.S. of Seeking Regime Change

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has publicly condemned the United States for allegedly trying to incite a regime change in his country. He expressed these concerns during a press conference, highlighting a U.S. naval buildup in the Caribbean as a serious threat to his government, which he described as “stolen.”

Both former President Joe Biden and President Donald Trump have asserted that Maduro’s election victory lacked legitimacy, claiming that there were manipulations in the electoral process. The recent military deployment, which Trump authorized, was characterized by U.S. officials as part of an effort to combat drug cartels and enhance border security.

Maduro, however, sees this as a violation of Venezuelan sovereignty. He commented, “They are seeking a regime change through military threat,” addressing journalists, officials, and military personnel in Caracas. He went on to stress that Venezuela is facing its most significant threat in the past century, asserting that such a situation has never been witnessed before.

The Venezuelan leader asserted that his nation will not succumb to intimidation and suggested that his fellow citizens are prepared for any potential conflicts, almost issuing a vague caution to the U.S. while trying to present himself as a resolute leader.

The Trump administration has previously accused Maduro of links to drug trafficking, even offering a $50 million reward for information leading to his apprehension. In March 2020, charges were brought against Maduro and numerous high-ranking Venezuelan officials for narco-terrorism and other crimes by the Department of Justice.

Attorney General William Barr pointed out that Maduro’s regime has collaborated with Colombia’s Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) to saturate the U.S. market with cocaine. Recently, President Trump announced that U.S. forces had successfully killed 11 members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua group, who were involved in drug trafficking, off Venezuela’s coast, with no American casualties reported.

In a recent tweet, Trump confirmed the military action against the Tren de Aragua narcoterrorists, reinforcing a strong message to drug cartels and traffickers: “Don’t even think about bringing drugs into America.”
