Vernon Jones Defends Hakeem Jeffries Against Racist Remarks
Former Georgia state representative Vernon Jones, who has switched from a conservative Democrat to a Republican, is standing up for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries after a left-leaning journalist made offensive racial comments about him.
In a series of social media posts, Jones expressed his disapproval of Jeffries’ political stance, yet felt compelled to speak out against the ugly remarks. “I’m a Black Republican who disagrees with @RepJeffries on nearly every political issue — but I will not remain silent while @rulajebreal calls America’s highest-ranking Black member of Congress an ‘AIPAC monkey’ and an ‘errand boy.’ That is vile, dehumanizing racism,” Jones stated on Sunday.
He added, “Her pathetic ‘I didn’t mean it in a racist way’ excuse changes nothing. If a conservative had said this, the media would demand careers be destroyed. The same standard must apply to the Left. Condemn it — loudly, unequivocally and without excuses.”
Palestinian journalist Rula Jebreal came under fire for her comments during a recent interview, which upset several black lawmakers, as reported by Breitbart News. While she attempted to explain and apologize for her remarks, the damage was already done.
The report notes that Jebreal, who identifies as a Palestinian foreign policy analyst, previously worked as a commentator for MSNBC until 2014. She left the network after criticizing the bias she perceived in the media and the U.S. government’s support for Israel.
In another post, Jones accused Jebreal and some Democrats of harboring racist beliefs towards Black individuals who receive support from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). “Democrats and Palestinians like @rulajebreal believe you are a monkey if you are BLACK and receive a campaign contribution from @AIPAC. But not if you’re white. Wake up @TheBlackCaucus!” he wrote.
Additionally, Jones mentioned that Jebreal has a history of employing racial language in her discussions.
As the Democratic Party grapples with more radical candidates pushing it towards socialism, Jeffries previously remarked that he hoped, once the primaries concluded, Democrats would recognize that their true opponent is President Trump. “I think at the end of the day, individual congressional districts are made up of a diverse group of people with a variety of perspectives on many issues. We’re just hopeful that once we get through this primary season, everyone recognizes that the enemy is Donald Trump and MAGA extremism,” he explained, emphasizing the need for working-class citizens to achieve a comfortable life in America.
