Chedur Sanders will hear his name being called, but that’s when the 2025 NFL Draft begins Thursday night in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
One NFL insider said the former Colorado quarterback, the most polarized outlook in this year’s draft, has a “very good opportunity.”
“He may not be the first round quarterback,” CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones said Wednesday. “He may not be the second quarterback selected. More teams than I can talk about say they have two rounds at Chedur Sanders.
“Why? He has average relatively arms, he has average relatively athletic ability… You compare it to your dad [Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders] Or other great quarterbacks in this draft, it’s average… Now break it down and see where those throws are behind the line of scrimmage and you have a Heisman Trophy winner [Travis Hunter, a projected top-three pick] What you were throwing at something like that helps things.
“I think that’s a very good opportunity [Shedeur Sanders] Not selected on Thursday nights. ”
Jones added that the “logical place” for Sanders to land is in the Steelers.
The fall to Pittsburgh is a major change since Sanders was once predicted to be in the top five, but Pittsburgh’s draft was the most talked about.
Sanders appears to have hinted at the possibility of becoming a steeler earlier this week.
Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network said on Wednesday he could stop in the second round if Sanders doesn’t land in Pittsburgh.
The Titans held their first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, followed by the Browns and Giants.
The prediction is that Titans will choose Come Ward, and both the Browns and Giants will pass Sanders.
Matt Ruhr, a former Giants assistant and head coach of Nebraska, said he feels Sanders will thrive in the New York spotlight.
“I’ll give him third overall. No questions asked.” Rhule told ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Wednesday.
“I think he’s tough. You can quote me about this. This is how strong I am. He had 12 hits against us. 12 hits. There were seven sacks. He’s accurate and clever. Look at the press.
“For me, he is someone who can handle spotlights in New York. He is the only person raised (as a child) to handle spotlights.
“Chedur was trained at his father’s foot. He has a completely different attitude. The spotlight there is so big. I think he’ll crush it.”
Sanders has been under the microscope, especially since the NFL Scouting Combine in February, with some saying he was “rude” and “entitled.”
After the pair left Jackson State, his father, who coached him for two seasons in Colorado, said he was treated differently because of his last name.
Sanders interviewed two teams negatively, but the person in charge couldn’t be held back. Tom Pelissero’s draft evaluation of the NFL network on tuesday.
The longtime NFL assistant coach who called him “rights” said Sanders was “the worst official interview I’ve ever done in my life.”
Another veteran AFC executive explained that his team’s interview with Sanders “didn’t work.”
“He wants to direct what he’s trying to do and what’s best for him. He makes you feel small,” the executive said.
Sanders has also received positive reviews from analysts, coaches and executives.
Many believe he needs time to develop and become stronger.
Sanders was the Big 12 Conference offensive player of the year as a senior last fall, threw a school-recorded 64 touchdown passes over two seasons in Colorado.
The 2025 NFL Draft begins at 8pm on Thursday nights at 8pm, followed by 2-3 rounds on Friday and 4-7 rounds on Saturday.
It will air on ABC, ESPN and NFL networks.
