"Very troubling": Incriminating alleged messages lead Republicans to demand the resignation of scandal-plagued Tony Gonzales

More and more Republicans are urging Texas Congressman Tony Gonzalez to resign following the emergence of troubling text messages he allegedly exchanged with a deceased staff member.

Gonzalez faced serious scrutiny last September when Regina Santos-Aviles, a staff member in his district, tragically took her own life outside her home in Uvalde. Reports later surfaced alleging that Gonzalez was having an affair with Santos-Aviles, claims he has repeatedly labeled as personal attacks.

Just prior to her death, Santos-Aviles reportedly texted a colleague stating she had been involved in an “affair” with her “boss.” Despite Gonzalez’s efforts to deny this narrative, additional explicit messages, seemingly from him to Santos-Aviles, have further fueled the controversy.

A newly released text message appears to show Gonzalez “pressuring” Santos-Aviles to take certain actions, to which she replied that she didn’t appreciate his “bossy” approach and didn’t like taking pictures of herself.

Robert Barrera, the attorney for Santos-Aviles’ widow, Adrian Aviles, indicated to Blaze News that these messages “seem legitimate,” and contacted Mr. Aviles for confirmation as well.

As of now, Gonzalez’s office has not commented on these unfolding events.

With the situation escalating, increasing numbers of Republicans are pushing for Gonzalez to step down, particularly as he prepares for the 2024 primary challenge from gun YouTuber Brendon Herrera, who came close to unseating him previously.

Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna stated that all members of Congress should denounce colleagues who solicit explicit images from their staff. She expressed her frustration, stating, “I’m so tired of people not calling this out,” and emphasized that this isn’t the only inappropriate conduct in Congress.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) simply stated, “Please resign!” in a clear call to action.

While Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) has not publicly demanded Gonzalez’s resignation, he mentioned that the allegations should be properly addressed. Notably, former President Donald Trump had endorsed Gonzalez back in December but has yet to revoke that support.
