Veteran Action Backs Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks in Ad Campaign
Veteran Action is supporting Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), calling her a strong advocate for veterans in a newly released advertisement obtained by Breitbart News.
The organization, which promotes America First policies for veterans, has launched a video campaign to bolster Miller-Meeks’ reelection efforts.
In the ad, a narrator highlights her background: “With two decades of service in the Army and a career as a physician, Mariannette Miller-Meeks brings invaluable experience to Congress.”
“She co-sponsored the Veterans Access Act, empowering veterans with more choices. Her Veterans Bill of Rights ensures that the VA clearly communicates what veterans are entitled to,” the narrator adds, underscoring her commitment to veterans.
Mark Lucas, the founder and president of Veteran Action, stated that Miller-Meeks is “the greatest champion veterans have in Congress.” He pointed out her consistent leadership on veterans’ issues and noted her service in the Army and her medical background as key attributes for advocating for veterans.
This year, Miller-Meeks introduced the Veterans’ Bill of Rights Act, which aims to guarantee that veterans receive clear and consistent information regarding their rights when accessing care and benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Her office emphasized several critical points included in the bill:
- Access to VA or VA-authorized providers according to eligibility under current law;
- Respect and dignity in all interactions with the VA;
- Comprehensive information about treatment options and informed consent;
- Details on available benefits, programs, and services for which veterans may qualify;
- The right to apply for benefits at any time, with clear explanations of eligibility;
- The ability to seek care or voice concerns without fear of retaliation;
- Protection of personal and medical information as required by law;
- Options for filing complaints with prompt investigations and resolutions;
- Clear communication in writing regarding claims, benefits, and appeals;
- Access to fair hearings and appeals through established processes.
The legislation explicitly requires the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to actively inform veterans about their healthcare rights, benefits, and available services.
“Our veterans have served honorably, protected our freedoms, and upheld the Constitution. They deserve to be fully informed about the benefits they have earned,” Miller-Meeks expressed in a statement at that time. “I often hear from Iowa veterans who are bewildered by the VA’s complicated bureaucracy. This bill seeks to eliminate that confusion, making sure veterans receive accurate information about their rights and available resources.”
Veteran Action further notes that the Iowa representative endorses other pro-veteran measures, including the Veterans’ ACCESS Act and the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act.
Miller-Meeks recently won the primary contest against GOP candidate David Pautsch and is set to face Democrat Christina Bohannan in the upcoming November election. Bohannan, a former state representative and a law professor at the University of Iowa, is pursuing this seat in what is considered a competitive district for the third time.
