Veteran Action Endorses Sen. Dan Sullivan in Alaska Senate Race

Veteran Action is expressing its support for Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) in the Alaskan senate race, highlighting his commitment to veterans in an advertisement that was first acquired by Breitbart News.

This organization, which describes itself as an advocate for America First policies focusing on national security and steadfast backing for veterans, is launching the ad to support Sen. Sullivan in his contest against former Democratic Congresswoman Mary Peltola and another Republican candidate, also named Dan Sullivan, which is, perhaps, a bit of an odd coincidence.

The ad emphasizes Sullivan’s extensive military background, stating, “Thirty years in the Marine Corps, recalled to active duty twice, including a tour in Afghanistan dismantling terrorist networks.” It further points out his work on the Veterans Access Act, aimed at ensuring veterans receive the healthcare they’ve earned, alongside his support for the Veterans Bill of Rights, advocating for accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Sullivan, who sits on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, played a key role in introducing the Protecting Regular Order (PRO) for Veterans Act in the Senate, which passed last year. He noted, “America’s veterans deserve a Department of Veterans Affairs that meets the highest standards of accountability.” He indicated that recent budget issues revealed that the agency was falling short of those expectations.

He expressed gratitude to his fellow Senators for cooperating in passing legislation intended to enforce basic accountability measures at the VA, such as regular budget reports to Congress and the denial of bonuses for senior officials during budget crises. “I urge my colleagues in the House to pass our PRO Vets Act for commonsense guardrails on VA leadership,” he urged.

His office has outlined a timeline of actions taken for VA accountability:

In summer 2024, the Veterans Benefits Administration reported a historic budget shortfall of $15 billion, requiring immediate financial assistance of $3 billion to continue delivering veterans’ benefits.
On July 31, 2024, Senators Sullivan and Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) sent a letter requesting an immediate hearing on the budget shortfall.
A hearing was held on September 18, 2024, during which Sen. Sullivan introduced the PRO Vets Act.
The following day, Sullivan attempted to amend a VA funding package with the PRO Vets Act, but Senate Democrats blocked it.
On November 18, 2024, Sullivan and 15 colleagues asked for enhanced accountability and oversight of the VA.
Finally, on February 5, 2025, he and 10 colleagues reintroduced the PRO Vets Act in the Senate.

Additionally, he has supported the ACCESS Act and the Veterans Bill of Rights.

This endorsement follows Veteran Action’s previous backing of Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), whom they also recognize as a strong advocate for veterans.
