Ndamukong Suh Announces Retirement
Former NFL defender Ndamukong Suh, who hasn’t played in the league for nearly three years, officially announced his retirement on Saturday.
This announcement held extra significance, as it marked the one-year anniversary of his father’s passing.
Suh took to social media to share his emotions: “It’s the day I said goodbye to my father, the man who raised me, shaped me, and believed in me, perhaps even before believing in himself. He wasn’t just a dad; he was my idol, my coach, my anchor. His influence was felt in everything I did. Every snap carried his fingerprint, and his voice reminded me of my name: ‘It’s time to do everything you’re trying to do.’”
Throughout his career, Suh made quite an impact. As a standout defensive tackle from Portland, Oregon, he was instrumental in Nebraska’s near upset of Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game, showcasing his talent on a national stage.
In the NFL, he continued to excel, winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award and making the first-team All-Pro list in his first season with Detroit.
Suh was known for his fierce playstyle, which sometimes resulted in fines and suspensions. A notable incident involved a controversial tackle on then-Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, although that suspension was later overturned upon appeal.
During his time with the Lions, he garnered two more All-Pro selections and later signed a massive contract with the Dolphins, becoming the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history at the time.
His career took him through the Buccaneers, Eagles, and Rams, where he appeared in three Super Bowls, joining a select group of players who participated in the NFL championship games across three different franchises.
In total, Suh’s 13-year NFL career saw him accumulate 71.5 sacks and 600 tackles.
