Rams Safety Kamren Kinchens Poised for Breakout Season

As Kamren Kinchens enters his third season in the NFL, his teammates are gearing up for what many believe could be a breakout year for him.

Nate Atkins from The Athletic notes that Rams safeties Quentin Lake and Cam Carle have observed substantial growth in Kinchens, suggesting he might reach an “All-Pro” level of performance.

Kinchens was picked by the Rams as the 99th overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft and has made appearances in 34 regular season games throughout the last two years.

Known for his ball-hawking skills, Kinchens accumulated 11 interceptions during his college career as a starter. In the NFL, he has been quite the presence in the Rams’ crowded safety lineup.

“That’s one of his special abilities,” Lake mentioned to Atkins. “He has a knack for being around the ball.”

Atkins reported that Kinchens has been actively intercepting passes during training camp, even snagging throws from veteran quarterbacks like Stetson Bennett and reigning MVP Matthew Stafford.

“We always discuss measured risks: If you see an opportunity, take it,” Lake told Atkins. “…Q, just trust your instincts. Sometimes you have to let loose and believe you can make the play.”

During the previous season, Kinchens had two interceptions, which he gained while assisting in a crucial win against the Seattle Seahawks.

Reflecting on his camp performance, Kinchens admitted that although chasing the ball is fundamental to his role as a safety, he sometimes finds it challenging. “Last year was when I really had to shift my mindset,” he told Atkins. “…It can be tough, especially when I play well in games but don’t make a play on the ball. I often dwell on it because it means so much to me.”

Kinchens also pointed out that a significant factor in the Rams’ ability to retain the ball during camp stems from the strengthened pass rush after acquiring Myles Garrett. “We’re creating more opportunities out there,” he explained.
