Longtime Tennessee Commissioner Arrested on Child Sex Charges

Residents of Millersville, Tennessee, were taken aback upon learning that a city commissioner, who has served for several years, was arrested amid serious allegations of child sex abuse spanning over 40 years.

The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest of 76-year-old David Winston Gregory at his home on Wednesday.

“These allegations are serious, and there’s absolutely no room in our society for this kind of behavior,” a local official remarked.

The indictment claims that Gregory committed these offenses between 1987 and 2026, with at least three counts of child sexual abuse involving multiple children. It further stated that three of the charges fell under the category of “aggravated sexual violence.”

Currently, he is being held at the Sumner County Jail with bail set at $750,000, facing charges that include continuous sexual abuse of a child and aggravated sexual assault.

Local officials expressed their surprise at the allegations as well. Millersville Mayor Lincoln Atwood stated, “As a government official where the incident allegedly happened, I think it would be inappropriate for me to comment further. But I trust the investigators and our judicial system. No one is above the law.”

Deputy Mayor Dustin Darnall added, “These allegations are grave, and we extend our prayers to all potential victims. I’m committed to supporting anyone affected, especially those who have faced sexual abuse. This type of behavior really has no place in our society.”

Gregory has been a city commissioner for around 14 years, with his current term set to end in 2026.

In an unrelated incident, a Millersville resident named Michael Shaw reacted to the news by describing the allegations as “disgusting.” He stressed the importance of having leaders who truly lead and think appropriately.

It’s worth mentioning that Gregory had previously made headlines by requesting the deputy police chief to apologize for promoting a conspiracy theory related to the Covenant School shooting in Nashville.
