Wembanyama Leads, But Team World Falls Short

Victor Wembanyama definitely made his presence felt. Unfortunately, his teammates struggled to keep up.

The French sensation helped elevate the competitiveness of this year’s All-Star Game.

For the first time, the format featured three teams—two primarily American and one mostly composed of international players, engaging in a round robin format.

This setup aimed to spark a sense of urgency among players who, in recent years, had lacked motivation.

And it seems to have worked, at least to some extent.

“This is a game we love,” Wembanyama expressed. “For me, it’s something I deeply value. Being competitive is the bare minimum I can do.”

However, despite his efforts, Team World lost to both American teams.

Wembanyama even missed a crucial buzzer-beater from three-point range, a shot that could have swung the game against the USA Stripes and allowed his team to progress to the finals.

Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards commented on Wembanyama’s impact, saying, “He set the tone, and it’s tough not to match that level of effort. That’s what we all aimed to do.”

“Everyone’s been asking for it,” added Knicks player Karl-Anthony Towns. “The fans, the media, everybody. After today’s games, it’s clear that the competition was real. I hope that resonated with the fans.”

Wembanyama ended the day with 33 points across two games for Team World.

Vince Carter, a color analyst for NBC, remarked, “He made it clear he came to play hard. From his initial buckets, he was aggressive. He wanted to control the game.”

The finals pitted the USA Stripes, made up of veteran players, against the younger talent of the USA Stars, with the veterans coming out on top.

Edwards contributed eight points, four rebounds, and two assists during the championship game.

In the end, he was awarded All-Star MVP.

Tracy McGrady, an analyst for NBC, celebrated the return of the game’s competitiveness, noting, “They delivered everything we expected and then some.”
