Victor Wembanyama Enters Concussion Protocol After Hard Fall

Victor Wembanyama experienced a significant fall that will see him enter concussion protocol, resulting in his absence for the remainder of Game 2 in the Spurs’ first-round series against the Trail Blazers.

The Spurs’ star player, known as the NBA’s first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, nearly stumbled while moving toward the basket during the second quarter.

Wembanyama fell forward and struck the court hard, hitting both his chin and head first. He remained on the floor for several moments, appearing to be in considerable pain. At one point, when he attempted to rise, he seemed disoriented and had to sit back down.

Following a timeout called by San Antonio, he managed to get back on his feet and went to the locker room for evaluation.

Wembanyama’s hard hit occurred after a driving spin move while playing against Jrue Holiday, and shortly after, the team announced his entry into the concussion protocol.

For the Spurs, losing Wembanyama would be a challenging setback. He only played 12 minutes before being injured, scoring five points and making 1-of-3 shots.

He previously had a standout Game 1, where he scored an impressive 35 points in the Spurs’ 111-98 win.

If a concussion is confirmed, Wembanyama will be sidelined for at least 48 hours and would need to follow a league-mandated return process to get back on the court.

The next matchup between the Spurs and Blazers is scheduled in Portland on Friday. It’s noteworthy that the Spurs haven’t seen playoff action since 2019, while the Trail Blazers last made it to the postseason in 2021.
