On Wednesday afternoon, two kids were robbed while running a lemonade stand near Boston, an event that has left the local community shaken.
Authorities responded to the scene in South Boston, where the siblings and their father explained what had occurred, as reported by Fox News.
The two suspects reportedly strolled past the children’s stand several times before finally approaching them to ask if they wanted to use Apple Pay.
“Before the budding entrepreneurs could answer, one of the suspects snatched a box containing $50 in cash. One of the suspects had a black firearm tucked into his waistband, and the two quickly made their escape,” police stated.
The children’s mother, Jennifer Byrne, shared her shock with NBC Boston, recalling: “My daughter called me at work, completely hysterical, saying, ‘Someone pointed a gun at us and took all our money.’ They saw two kids across the street with masks, pacing back and forth.”
She continued, “My sons are 12, and one is younger—maybe around 10 or 11. The other looks a bit older, perhaps 14.”
Law enforcement officials released surveillance images and video of the suspects on Thursday, appealing to the public for assistance in identifying them.
“The children described one suspect as a dark-skinned male, approximately 14 years old, wearing black Nike Shesties—whatever that is. He had on a black shirt, pants of an unknown color, and white knee socks, carrying a black firearm. The second suspect was identified as a light-skinned male, believed to be around 11 years old, also dressed in Nike Shesties,” the report indicated.
Despite this troubling incident, the brothers expressed their intention to reopen the lemonade stand.
In response to this event, Boston City Councilman Ed Flynn commented: “If someone robs a lemonade stand, you can’t keep claiming this is the safest city in America.”
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu (D) faced backlash in March 2025 for expressing condolences to a family after a man who attempted to stab two people at a restaurant was killed.
During a speech, she directed criticism toward President Donald Trump, reaffirming her commitment to illegal immigration while maintaining that Boston remains the “safest big city in the country,” according to reports.
Furthermore, there were mentions that “Mr. Wu also contributed to Boston’s economic troubles by attracting immigrants, even as the city’s middle class was departing.” Allegations surfaced regarding her receiving support from Chinese Communist Party intelligence operatives during the 2021 election cycle.
