Minnesota liquor store manager He said he was shocked To see security camera footage of her helping her 8-year-old daughter fight off an armed robber with a baseball bat.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday as the store manager, who called himself Leo, was preparing to close Big Discount Liquors in Maplewood when a man wearing an Amazon uniform walked into the store and placed a realistic-looking BB gun on the counter.
“I’m so proud of her,” her father recalled. “She’s so strong.”
“He put the gun on the table and asked me to give him my money and everything in the register. I said, ‘Yes, I’ll give you everything,'” Leo said.
He also told the suspect he was only concerned about the safety of his daughter, who was next to Leo behind the counter. WCCO-TV.
But surveillance footage showed the suspect walking behind the counter with a gun, and that’s when Leo took action.
“I’m a father,” he said. “I won’t let you do that.” Leo then punched the man over the head and threw him to the floor.
The brave daughter then joined the fight and attacked the suspect with a baseball bat, striking him several times before running away, police said.
“I’m really proud of her,” her father recalled. “She’s really strong.”
The suspect fled the scene, and Leo said she didn’t realize her daughter had jumped into the melee until she later saw the video.
“I just wanted to cry that day. When I saw the video I never thought she would do something like that. I pictured a little girl screaming and crying,” he said.
Police quickly arrested the suspect, identifying him as 37-year-old Conchobar Morrell of St. Paul. He was charged with attempted first-degree robbery, WCCO reported, citing the indictment, adding that Morrell’s criminal history includes a 2004 conviction for first-degree robbery.
Amazon said Morrell was a delivery person for a third-party delivery service and that the company had taken steps to terminate him “effective immediately.”
Leo added that when he asked his daughter what made her so brave, she replied that she wanted to protect him and that she loved him very much.
