Video captures sheriff's deputy hanging from a bridge after his squad car is wrecked by a truck.

A disturbing incident unfolded in Lubbock County, Texas, where a sheriff’s deputy found himself dangling from an elevated train after a semi-truck collided with his police cruiser.

Deputy Andrew Cavassos was left secured to a concrete barrier, a situation captured in a video that circulated widely.

A quick-thinking bystander, perhaps in a moment of instinct, raced to a nearby gas station, found a rope, and wrapped it around the deputy to help secure him.

Others quickly joined in, bringing a ladder from beneath the bridge, with one man climbing up to reach the deputy from below.

“We just grabbed the ladder and did everything we could,” said a helper named Cole Stevenson in an interview.

Eventually, emergency responders managed to maneuver the damaged police vehicle and safely rescue the deputy, who has since been released from the hospital.

“I want to thank everyone who came to my aid. Without you, things could have turned out very differently,” Cavassos expressed gratefully after the ordeal.

Both Cavassos, 49, and another deputy, Jorge Martinez, aged 36, were trapped when the truck driver struck their cruiser as they were assisting a motorist with a flat tire. No charges have been reported as of now.

The deputy was only secured by his feet during the incident, which caused him to fall, as reported by officers.

While both the deputy and the civilian were taken to the hospital after the crash, they have both since been discharged.

“God is good,” remarked Sheriff Kelly Lowe, reflecting on the incident. “He definitely watched over those two young men yesterday, without a doubt.”

“To everyone who found that ladder and helped move debris aside—it was crucial in ensuring they received the help they needed,” he added. “I hope to meet some of those heroes in person.”
