Incident Involving CBP Officer and Illegal Aliens
On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shared a video that appears to show an illegal alien being left at a Bronx hospital after allegedly shooting a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer.
The footage depicts a man in a red shirt and a black garment, seemingly in a hospital setting, pushing another person in a white shirt to the ground. Some passengers tumble off a moped as the driver speeds away.
DHS mentioned on X that the video captures suspects from the earlier moped incident. They stated, “These individuals will face the full weight of the US justice system.”
Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez is accused of shooting a CBP officer during an attempted robbery at Fort Washington Park late Saturday. According to police, Nunez and another person attempted to steal the officer’s moped, prompting the officer to draw his service weapon. Both the officer and Nunez were shot multiple times.
The unnamed officer suffered gunshot wounds to his face and arm but is expected to recover.
Nunez reportedly entered the U.S. illegally in 2023 at the Arizona border and was allowed to remain in the country under the Biden administration. At the time of the shooting, DHS noted he had an active warrant in Massachusetts and a history of multiple felony arrests.
On the same day, a second individual was arrested in relation to this incident.
According to DHS, this individual also entered the U.S. illegally on June 19, 2022, and was released pending an immigration hearing. He is believed to have committed various offenses while on parole, including reckless endangerment and theft of grand and petty items.
In February, this second suspect was arrested for reckless driving and other offenses.
New York’s policies regarding illegal aliens mean that it does not comply with ICE detainer holds, creating a complex situation around enforcement.
Nunez and the second suspect are likely to face federal charges.
