Pizza Hut Revives Nostalgic Atmosphere in 40 Locations Across the U.S.

About 40 Pizza Hut restaurants nationwide are reintroducing a charming vintage vibe that has customers buzzing with excitement.

Daland Corp., based in Kansas and operating 93 Pizza Hut locations, is updating 38 of its restaurants to feature nostalgic elements from the ’80s and ’90s. This initiative, dubbed “Pizza Hut Classics,” includes the iconic red cups, salad bars, and checkered tablecloths, as reported by Fox News.

Tim Sparks, president of Daland, reminisced about the family dinners he enjoyed at Pizza Hut in the past. He hopes these renovations will inspire others to create similar memories. “It’s a good time to start having dinner together,” he remarked, noting positive feedback so far. “Everyone’s going to be really excited. It’s going to be a lot of fun for sure.”

The renovated locations will even feature promotional materials for the “Book It!” program. Established in 1984, this initiative rewards kids for reading more with pizza as an incentive.

Excitement surrounding the return of this vintage experience has intensified, especially after reports of Pizza Hut’s parent company planning to close 250 underperforming stores in the U.S.

Sparks shared that he and his team have been working on these renovations for six years, though locating Tiffany-style lampshades has proven to be quite the challenge. “We use Amazon for table arrangements and battery-operated candles. Pizza Hut originally had a vendor for the shades, but they required an order of 500, which I wasn’t aiming for,” he explained.

In a recent video, Sparks led reporters through one of the renovated Pizza Hut Classic locations in Pennsylvania. One customer expressed, “When you finally find the same flavor you really remember, you can’t let it go.”

Sparks noted that some customers travel for hours just to enjoy a meal at the restaurant, emphasizing that part of his mission is to encourage family togetherness. “If you can get them here as a family, they’re more likely to put down their phones and actually talk to each other. I’m not saying I know how to fix the world, but families are a good starting point,” he said.

Pizza Hut originated in 1958, founded by two brothers who were given $600 by their mother to start a pizza restaurant in Wichita, Kansas. According to Pizza Hut’s website, they named it so because their sign only allowed for eight characters. How interesting!
