CNN Anchor Appears on CBS with Colbert

CNN’s Jake Tapper made a guest appearance on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show. Colbert opened with some light flirting, complimenting Tapper’s appearance before turning his attention to President Trump. “I like your pocket square,” Colbert remarked as Tapper revealed a political pocket square that seemed quite natural.

Tapper explained that this particular pocket square symbolizes freedom of the press and many journalists would wear it at the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He noted that it was from the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, playfully adding that Colbert might not be aware of it.

For his first five years in office, Trump consistently chose to boycott the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. However, this year marked a change.

Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that he would attend the banquet to honor the occasion of the nation’s 250th anniversary. He noted that the Correspondents’ Association acknowledged him as a significant president in U.S. history.

Despite the invitation, Trump’s administration has frequently criticized outlets such as CNN and CBS for their perceived bias. This tension has been ongoing.

Recently, the FCC took steps to enforce equal opportunity rules, compelling networks like CBS to provide balanced airtime for political candidates. In a somewhat misleading claim, Colbert suggested that the administration was censoring his show over its choice to interview only one of Texas’s Democratic Senate candidates, James Talarico.
