On Thursday, as the jewelry store in Anaheim, California was closing, five cars approached the front. Security footage reveals a group of over 20 people quickly exiting the vehicles and gathering outside Al-Amira’s gem shop.

The owner reported hearing a loud noise and when he looked out, he saw a large crowd, though he couldn’t specify how many. The footage suggests a well-coordinated effort, as the group, dressed similarly, attempted to break in using tools like pickaxes and sledgehammers.

But then, something unexpected happened; the whole group fled back to their cars. It seems their plan took a dangerous turn.

The owner took action—he fired his gun after realizing he was being robbed, as reported by KTTV. Inside the store, footage showed people running for cover, with some returning armed.

The shopkeeper confirmed that he fired at least one shot during the chaos. Although he spoke to the station later, his identity remained concealed due to safety concerns. He shared his belief that the thieves had been monitoring the store beforehand, noting that several of his family members were present just moments before the break-in attempt.

“I saw a lot of people outside; I couldn’t even count,” he said. “I felt it was necessary to protect myself and my employees, so I shot one bullet. The person by the door moved, and that solved the problem,” he explained to the station.

Nearby restaurant owner Mahmoud Salem expressed disbelief, stating that he’s never witnessed anything like it in his 30 years of business. “It felt like a scene from a movie,” he added.

The shop owner noted that there had been a similar incident in the past, but the intruder had failed to gain entry that time. As for the police, they gave an update saying no arrests had been made yet, but investigations were ongoing. They also mentioned any legal implications of the shooting would be handled by the District Attorney’s Office.

Just a month prior, a thief targeted a different jewelry store nearby, escaping with over $3 million in goods. Police in Glendale reported that the suspect was apprehended in a separate incident weeks later.
