Bodycam footage from the recent arrest of Sha’Carri Richardson was made public on Wednesday. This incident took place amid a domestic violence dispute with her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
The video shows Richardson engaged in a heated exchange with a police officer, referring to her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman, in a disparaging manner.
In the footage, she states, “Because he is a colic and I have no intention of dealing with him anymore. My name is Sha’Carri Richardson. I have no issues identifying who I am. I didn’t touch him. We simply had an argument.”
Richardson, who is 25, provided her identification to an officer who was approaching Coleman.
“But yeah, you’re a coward,” she could be heard saying at one point.
As officers were putting her in handcuffs, she yelled at Coleman.
One officer informed her, “You’re being arrested for assault.”
Richardson insisted she hadn’t assaulted him, even as an officer mentioned the existence of a video recording.
“Christian, are you kidding me? I’m going to jail for you now,” she exclaimed.
She then inquired whether bail could be arranged by the officers.
The Olympic gold medalist asked if she could be put in a police vehicle without handcuffs, a request that was denied, leading her to tears.
“My name is Sha’Carri Richardson. I have nothing. Can you take these off? I’m not a criminal. I just had an argument with my boyfriend,” she pleaded.
Surveillance footage appears to show Richardson pushing Coleman multiple times during the altercation.
Following the incident, Richardson expressed remorse for what transpired.
She stated, “I apologize to Christian. He has come into my life and given me more than just a relationship; I’ve gained a deeper understanding of unconditional love based on past experiences.”
“Due to previous trauma and pain, I had trouble both receiving and giving love. I truly love him. I can’t express my apology enough. It should be loud and clear.”
Richardson, a two-time Olympic medalist with one gold and one silver medal, has said she is seeking help regarding these issues.
