Video reveals suspected multi-million dollar daycare fraud during the Walz administration

Investigation into Minnesota Daycare Fraud Continues

The third-ranking House leader from Minnesota is pressing Gov. Tim Walz for clarity after a YouTuber confronted a daycare worker regarding an incorrectly spelled sign and a lack of visible activity outside. This daycare reportedly received $4 million in state funding.

This video has gained traction recently, coinciding with growing scrutiny surrounding Gov. Walz’s administration. Notably, there have been allegations of over $1 billion in losses due to supposed social services fraud, particularly linked to the Somali community in the Twin Cities. Some of these funds have supposedly been funneled to the extremist group al-Shabab.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, representing suburbs around the Twin Cities and St. Cloud, criticized the governor publicly. “Four million dollars of taxpayer money is going to educational centers that can’t even get their signs right. Can you explain this, Tim Walz?” he questioned on X.

The Quality Learning Center has been recently flagged for accumulating 95 violations from the National Welfare Department between 2019 and 2023. These infractions have ranged from inadequate safety precautions around hazardous materials to missing documentation for a number of children. Current licensing records suggest the daycare isn’t up for renewal until late 2026.

This week, YouTuber Nick Shirley and another individual visited a building labeled Quality Learning Center on Nicollet Street in Minneapolis, only to find the word “Learning” misspelled on the sign. Almost at once, a woman reacted by shouting, “Don’t open it, it’s ICE,” seemingly alerting those inside.

When Shirley inquired if she thought they were immigration officers, she identified herself as a commentator online. The other man displayed a document that hinted the center had spent $1.9 million for the fiscal year 2025—totaling $4 million noted in their records. The woman urged them to leave, labeling them unwelcome, but it remains unclear if she had any connection to the daycare.

“Are you alright with $1.9 million being transferred to this operation?” Shirley questioned. “This place calls itself a high-quality learning center, yet it can’t even spell ‘learning’ correctly.”

The center is licensed to accommodate 99 children, as noted in official documents, which also aligned with Shirley’s observations in his video. “There’s no one here,” he remarked.

Shirley stressed that this incident is emblematic of the broader, alleged fraud in Minnesota, suggesting that many similar “daycares” are draining millions from taxpayers. Observers like Greg Price noted that confronting these centers often leads to being accused of being ICE agents, particularly in this politically charged environment.

U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson mentioned that once investigations into the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) conclude, total fraud losses could eclipse $1 billion. The Treasury Department is also probing the matter, while Secretary Scott Bessent continues to address the unfolding situation publicly.

One of the most significant entities involved has been a child nutrition initiative known as Feeding Our Future, although other CCAP fund recipients are also under investigation.

Attempts to contact the daycare’s phone number listed in state records yielded an automated response indicating the call could not be completed. Efforts to reach Gov. Walz and the state’s Attorney General Keith Ellison have also been made for comments on the issue.

Additionally, inquiries were directed at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security regarding criticisms of the Minnesota investigation and its alleged ICE involvement in public confrontations.
