Veteran Speaks Out After Shooting Naked Intruder

George Carcock, a 79-year-old Vietnam War veteran in Los Angeles, has received praise for fatally shooting an intruder who broke into a neighbor’s home. The incident occurred after the suspect—who was reportedly naked—approached the house, leading to a confrontation that left Carcock injured, having suffered two broken legs.

In the quiet neighborhood of Studio City, Carcock became a local hero after police indicated that the intruder had entered the home while a woman inside was crying out for help. “I knew that if I didn’t take care of him, I had no idea what he was going to do or what he was capable of,” Carcock shared from his hospital bed.

On November 7, around 7 a.m., police reported that the intruder was spotted carrying what seemed to be a yard sign and was unclothed. Nearby, authorities found a deserted vehicle and some clothing, although the suspect remained unidentified.

Carcock, who warned the intruder to leave and mentioned that he had called the police, faced a sudden turn of events when the intruder refused his command and assaulted him, throwing him to the ground. In that struggle, Carcock broke both his legs, which he described, saying, “I was on my back and my leg was crushed. He’s on top of me and my arm with the gun is pinned behind my back.”

Despite the dire situation, Carcock managed to reach for his weapon and shot the intruder at close range. “I don’t consider myself a hero,” he remarked afterward. “This is a situation where I was lucky to do the right thing.”

After the confrontation, police responded quickly, and Carcock was taken to the hospital, where he is expected to stay for at least another week. Officers have since returned to check on him, wishing him a swift recovery.
