“The View” host Sarah Haines said Tuesday that barring former President Trump from each state's 2024 primary voting gives the impression of “election fraud.”
Haines said on Tuesday's episode of “The View” that recent decisions to remove the former president from voting in Colorado and Maine only make more people believe the voting system is unfair. insisted.
Haines added that he agrees with former Obama aide David Axelrod and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who both said last month that removing Trump from the ballot could divide the country. and warned that elections should be decided by voters.
“What's going to happen is we're one step away from martyrdom. Our country doesn't believe in democracy and we don't believe in voting,” Haines said. “Everyone who lost says there was fraud, they failed. I think this gives us a vision, a visual message to people, that this was a fraudulent election.”
He also predicted that the Supreme Court would rule unanimously in Trump's favor.
“I don't think the Supreme Court will decide this case. I think they're going to overturn it, and it won't just be the originalists. I'm sure it'll be a 9-0 vote. “I don't think it will hold,” she said.
Co-host Joy Behar disagreed with Haines, saying she believes “the law will become law” if the Supreme Court takes up the case.
“If you're not going to abide by the amendment, why not let Taylor Swift run for president?” Behar said.
Trump was removed from the vote in Colorado and Maine last month under the 14th Amendment's “insurrection clause.” These two states are the first to exclude the former president from voting, meaning more states could exclude President Trump if the Supreme Court upholds the recent ruling.
Trump on Tuesday appealed a decision in Maine to bar him from participating in that state's primary ballot. He is also expected to appeal the decision in Colorado.
