Viewers seem to have shown little interest in the second episode of Jen Psaki’s “Briefing” on MSNBC Wednesday evening.
The show premiered on Tuesday with an audience of 1.2 million viewers, including 139,000 in a key demographic. However, the numbers reportedly dropped significantly the following night.
On Wednesday, her second episode fell to just 65,000 in the targeted demographic, with over a million viewers tuning in overall. According to reports, this led to a notable 53% drop in demo viewers compared to the show’s debut. Additionally, there was a striking 67% loss in viewers aged 18 to 49, as “Briefing” averaged 113,000 viewers on Tuesday but only 37,000 the next day.
Moreover, on Wednesday, Psaki’s show attracted fewer viewers in the 25-54 age group than reruns of popular sitcoms like “Friends,” “Seinfeld,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “The King of Queens,” and “That ’70s Show.”
Psaki, formerly a spokesperson for President Joe Biden, recently took over the network’s evening slot as Rachel Maddow returned to her weekly hosting role, as noted by the Associated Press back in April.
She succeeded Alex Wagner, who previously managed to retain viewers amidst a lineup featuring some of MSNBC’s most well-known personalities. Psaki’s appointment was among the first changes made by the new MSNBC president, who has been navigating the network’s ongoing separation from NBC News.
Reactions to Psaki’s “Briefing” have surfaced on social media. One user remarked, “When MSDNC thinks they can’t get worse with Rachel Maddow, Jen Psaki comes in and she sets an even lower standard.”
Another comment noted, “I feel like I need to go back to my previous question: what about the audience? Bahahaha.”
In March, former President Donald Trump referred to CNN and MSNBC as “Democrats’ political weapons,” claiming that their actions were unlawful, according to Breitbart news.
