2026 Grammy Awards Draw Fewer Viewers
The 68th Grammy Awards, aired on CBS on Sunday night, attracted markedly fewer viewers than in previous years. This year’s event saw an average of 14 million viewers, which is an 11% decrease from last year and a 20% drop compared to 2024.
Looking more closely at demographics, the show had about 5.7 million viewers aged 25-54, showing a 13% decline from last year’s 5 million. Among younger viewers aged 18-49, there was also a significant decrease of 19%, and a 10% decline was noted for those aged 55 and older.
The sharpest decline came from viewers between the ages of 18-34, which averaged around 2 million, down from 2.4 million in the previous year, reflecting a 20% fall.
In 2027, the Grammy Awards are set to move from CBS to the Disney Network and streaming platforms. This year, several artists, including Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, and Hailey Bieber, wore “ICE OUT” pins to voice their dissent against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) amid President Trump’s immigration policies.
Eilish particularly stood out when she accepted the award for Song of the Year.
President Trump criticized the ceremony the following Monday, calling it “virtually unwatchable.” He also threatened legal action against host Trevor Noah for what he labeled “defamatory” comments regarding Jeffrey Epstein.
Noah made a quip suggesting that Trump’s interest in Greenland was due to the availability of another island to “hang out with Bill Clinton,” a joke that didn’t sit well with the President.
During their performances, artists such as Bad Bunny and Olivia Dean also included messages promoting pro-immigration sentiments.
Reflecting on the atmosphere at the awards, Irish stated, “I feel really hopeful in this room. We need to keep fighting and speaking out…Our voices really matter.”
Trump’s response on social media included deriding the event and calling Noah “a total loser,” emphasizing a desire to pursue legal action against him for the comments made during the show.
