Vikings Condemn Racist Messages Directed at Isaiah Rodgers
The Minnesota Vikings have expressed their strong disapproval of the racist messages received by defensive back Isaiah Rodgers following the team’s recent 28-22 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rodgers shared a screenshot of some of the hateful messages he received via social media, which included racial slurs.
The team released a statement on Monday addressing the situation. They said, “We are disgusted by the racial slurs directed at Isaiah Rodgers after yesterday’s game. As we have stated before, there is no place for racist language or behavior in sport or society.”
They continued by voicing their support for Rodgers and all players who, unfortunately, have to face such ignorance. “We ask our fans to continue fighting to end racism,” the statement added.
In a follow-up post, Rodgers remarked that the recent messages were not the worst he had encountered. He stated, “Racism is real. Keep playing football, football. This isn’t even the worst situation I’ve seen. Stay firm or shut up, ‘fans.’ Fake applause, no support, no loyalty—never switching. Pick a side and stay there!”
Interestingly, Rodgers was with the Eagles last season when they triumphed over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. He joined the Vikings during the offseason.
So far this season, he has compiled 21 tackles, one interception, one touchdown, and two pass breakups across six games.
