Vikings Rookie QB Max Brosmer Set to Start

It seems like the moment has arrived for Max Brosmer, the Vikings’ rookie quarterback.

The 25-year-old, who went undrafted, is gearing up to play against former Minnesota quarterback Sam Darnold in Seattle this Sunday. Meanwhile, struggling starter JJ McCarthy is coping with a concussion, which keeps him out of the lineup, as reported by The Athletic.

“We have tremendous confidence in Max,” said Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. It’s been a notable journey for Brosmer since joining the team—he’s consistently showed up, ready to contribute. O’Connell emphasized that Brosmer has become a crucial part of the offense since day one, even stepping in during training camp and preseason. The experience he gained from playing in games, including against tough competition, has prepared him for this opportunity.

Brosmer hails from Iowa and started his college football career at New Hampshire before transferring to Minnesota for his final season. There, he threw for 17 touchdowns and five interceptions. After impressing the Vikings in the offseason, he signed with the team right after the 2025 NFL Draft and secured a spot on the 53-man roster.

Although he has played in the regular season, this Sunday marks his official start. O’Connell mentioned that Brosmer feels well-prepared for the challenge ahead.

In Seattle, the 4-7 Vikings will go head-to-head against Darnold, who had a standout season last year with the Seahawks under O’Connell’s leadership. Darnold made a significant move to Seattle, signing a three-year contract worth $100 million.

Darnold, now 28, previously replaced McCarthy last year when McCarthy faced injury challenges. The second-year quarterback was drafted tenth overall in 2024 and had a rough year with ups and downs. He had a promising start but faced setbacks, including missing games due to a high ankle sprain. Reports indicated that McCarthy experienced concussion symptoms shortly after the Vikings’ recent loss, further complicating his season.
