Vikings Secure Brian O’Neal with a Big Extension

As the Vikings approach 2026, there seems to be some doubt surrounding their quarterback situation. However, one thing is clear: they’ve solidified their offensive line.

Right tackle Brian O’Neal has recently been extended for four years, with the deal potentially reaching up to $96 million, as reported by ESPN.

This contract will keep him with the team until 2030.

Currently, O’Neal is in the final year of his initial five-year, $92.5 million rookie contract that he signed back in 2021. Since joining the Vikings in 2018, he has been a consistent starter.

Initially, talks about a new contract began earlier in the offseason, but they hit a pause during the interim phase led by general manager Rob Brzezinski. Once the Vikings found their new full-time GM, Nolan Teasley, conversations resumed, ultimately leading to this finalized agreement.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed his commitment to O’Neal, remarking, “He’s someone I’ve invested a lot in since I arrived, and even before that. This organization really matters to him, to our fans, and our ownership. With the dynamic offense we’re building and his excitement, we’re looking forward to our best season yet.”

O’Neal has developed a solid partnership with left tackle Christian Darrisaw, a duo that gives the Vikings an edge over many teams struggling with their offensive lines.

According to Pro Football Focus, last season O’Neal conceded just 21 pressures and two sacks during pass protection.

Though O’Neal is a key player for the Vikings, he has faced some injury issues. Despite being a two-time Pro Bowl selection, he’s only managed to complete three seasons without missing games. Last year, he was sidelined for three games due to heel and knee problems.

While the quarterback position may be uncertain, at least whoever takes the helm—JJ McCarthy or Kyler Murray—will have solid protection on the field.
