Vikings Speak Out Against Racism Following Comments Directed at Isaiah Rodgers
The Vikings have expressed their outrage regarding the racist messages cornerback Isaiah Rodgers received after the team’s recent 28-22 defeat to the Eagles, calling the situation “disgusting.”
Rodgers shared screenshots on his Instagram, highlighting one message that used a racial slur and another that shockingly compared him to Hitler.
Interestingly, after Rodgers responded to these comments, some fans later apologized, which, I guess, shows how guilt can sometimes creep in after such harsh realizations.
Rodgers, addressing the issue on X, noted, “Racism is real,” urging fans to keep supporting the sport. He also mentioned that he’s seen worse, which is both unfortunate and revealing about the climate some players endure.
The Vikings, in a statement released on Monday, condemned the slurs aimed at Rodgers. “There’s no place for racist language or behavior in sports or society,” they said. They voiced their support for Rodgers and all athletes who face similar discrimination, urging fans to continue the fight against racism.
Post-game, DeVonta Smith, who had a standout performance against the Vikings with a 79-yard touchdown, acknowledged the harsh criticism he faced but remarked that he “signed with the Vikings for a reason” and felt a personal responsibility to improve.
Rodgers joined the Vikings on a two-year deal worth up to $15 million in the offseason, indicating both promise and pressure for this season ahead.
In Week 3 against the Bengals, he displayed his skills impressively, scoring two defensive touchdowns, forcing two fumbles, and contributing three tackles.
Smith began his career with the Colts before spending last season with the Eagles, and now finds himself challenged to live up to expectations with the Vikings.
