Vikings want JJ McCarthy as starter — not ruling out Aaron Rodgers talks

In his first comment on JJ McCarthy's spot on the Minnesota quarterback depth chart, general manager Kuwesiado Fomensa told reporters that “the outcome we want” is for McCarthy to become the starting QB.

The Vikings GM also said, “It's the outcome we're heading.” According to ESPNhe left the door open for Minnesota and continued his discussion with free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

McCarthy was believed to be the number one quarterback at some point, part of why Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones signed with other teams this offseason, but the Vikings remained their mother in their quarterback plans for next season.

They are also one of the suitors of Rogers' services.

“It's not work to sit here and say anything is 100% forever,” Adfor Mensa said as she was forced into excluding further talk with Rogers. “We are responding to scenarios and different information as it comes, so obviously things can change, but now we are really happy [quarterback] The room and we are trying to upgrade it in many ways. ”

McCarthy suffered from torn meniscus in his right knee, which cost him his rookie season, and he was cleared for offseason activities.

The 10th overall pick appeared on “Up & Adams Show With Kay Adams” on Tuesday and was asked when he learned he would become the Vikings No. 1 quarterback.

McCarthy said the team wasn't told he was the starter.

“I'm trying to earn it every day, so they're not trying to get it, so I didn't. “It's a very privileged and an opportunity to give me that opportunity and I'm going to make the most of it every day.”

On his appearance, McCarthy said he felt his knee was “great” and he would say he was “100%.”

Vikings General Manager, Quasiado Fomensa, will speak at a press conference at the NFL Football Scouting Combine held in Indianapolis on February 25th, 2025. AP

Still, it appears that Rogers still lurks on the horizon as the future Hall of Famer hasn't signed with the team.
