Collanese Critiques Pelosi’s Stance on Impeachment
On Tuesday’s episode of “Vince,” Daily Caller Editor-in-Chief Vince Collanese expressed skepticism about former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s claim that Democrats shouldn’t focus on impeaching President Donald Trump. He suggested that her statements might not be entirely candid.
During a recent interview on USA Today’s “The Excerpt,” Pelosi stated that Trump hasn’t done anything in his second term that merits impeachment. She emphasized that if Democrats regain the House in 2026, impeachment shouldn’t be a priority. However, Collanese pointed out that there seems to be an underlying strategy from the Democrats, implying they’re withholding intentions to impeach until after the midterm elections.
“The crux of her message is that she pretends to lack ambitions regarding Trump’s impeachment. It’s all an act,” Collanese remarked. “She’s engaged in a kind of deception, one rooted in her quest for power within the Democratic Party.”
He argued that Pelosi’s public statements should be viewed skeptically. “If she were praising Trump today, I’d still think she’s not being honest. There’s always a motive behind her words,” he noted, adding that she’s downplaying the party’s desire to impeach the president.
Collanese also highlighted discontent among Democrats regarding Michigan Rep. Shri Thanedar, who attempted to initiate impeachment proceedings against Trump back in May. “They’re upset because he acted prematurely,” he explained. “It’s like he’s trying to score before the game is even close to being over.” He suggested that there seems to be a coordinated effort to restrain such moves among their ranks.
He continued, “They want to keep a lid on their more extreme impulses. It’s all about perception—putting on a front of concern for voters. The actual plan is to wait until after the midterms, and then things might change.” Collanese posited that Pelosi feigning lack of interest in impeachment is part of this larger strategy.
In her broadcast, Pelosi maintained that impeachment should only be considered if there are legitimate reasons to do so. “That’s not a term you throw around lightly,” she mentioned. “There must be clear justification.”
While House Democrats successfully impeached Trump twice during Pelosi’s leadership in his first term, she was initially hesitant to pursue those actions. The votes for impeachment were substantial, although there was some division among Democrats, as seen when Rep. Al Green distanced himself from the more recent impeachment efforts, advocating for a comprehensive investigative process first.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries faced questions about his recent vote supporting impeachment, which marked a shift from his earlier position. He responded that a thorough and careful process needs to precede any impeachment consideration.
