Amy Grant Reflects on Marriage with Vince Gill

Amy Grant is sharing insights about her long-lasting relationship with Vince Gill, discussing how he has consistently supported her throughout their two decades of marriage.

In a recent chat, the 65-year-old singer described Gill as extraordinarily kind and protective. “He’s got this switch,” she explained. “If someone crosses the line, he’s quick to respond. He’s a sharp thinker, not afraid to defend me. I honestly feel so loved by him.”

Earlier this year, Gill recounted a moment where he stood up to radio host Don Imus during a broadcast, calling out negative comments made about both him and Grant.

Gill shared, “Don started as a fan, but changed his tune after I married Amy, saying things like, ‘Vince Gill lost the Baby Jesus, married that Christian girl.’ When I was on his show, I waited until Amy’s name came up to intervene.” He made it clear: “If you met her, you’d never speak unkindly about her.” He jokingly added, “I came on this show for either a conversation or to… well, you get the idea.”

After that interview, Gill heard Imus on air say, “I don’t know why I was giving that guy so much crap. I love that guy.” The two maintained a friendship until Imus passed away in 2019.

In her conversation with Grant, she reflected on how Gill supported her during personal challenges, including her unexpected open-heart surgery in 2020 and a bike accident in 2022 that impacted her memory.

She recalled, “My short-term memory was really affected. There were moments I thought, ‘What if this is all there is?’ And he replied, ‘Anything can happen to any of us.’ His perspective was always about taking things one day at a time.” This steady message of commitment has been a consistent theme throughout their life together, spoken or unspoken.

When Grant expressed to Gill how understood she feels by him, he humbly acknowledged, “I don’t always understand you, but whatever you bring, I welcome.” This has been the essence of their relationship—discovering new layers of one another over their 26 years together. “The more I know him, the deeper my love grows,” she added, highlighting how each life chapter presents opportunities to deepen that bond.

Grant and Gill tied the knot in March 2000 and welcomed their daughter, Corrina, a year later. The couple first crossed paths in 1993 while they were both married to others, but they later began dating following their respective divorces.

In addition to personal matters, Grant recently spoke about honoring Dolly Parton at the Dove Awards alongside Natalie Grant, admitting her nervousness about performing one of Parton’s songs. “Her songs are difficult, and I wasn’t sure I could do it justice,” she mused. It turned out to be a meaningful moment for both artists, and they celebrated that opportunity together.
