Amy Grant Reflects on Marriage to Vince Gill
Amy Grant recently shared insights about her long-lasting relationship with husband Vince Gill, emphasizing his unwavering support after two decades of marriage.
In an interview, the 65-year-old singer described Gill as incredibly kind but also noted that he has a protective side. “He has this ability to switch quickly,” she mentioned, adding that he’s not hesitant to stand up for her or confront anyone who threatens that safety. “I really feel loved by him,” Grant said.
Earlier this year, Gill recounted an encounter with radio personality Don Imus, where he defended Grant against some negative remarks made during Imus’s show. He recalled how Imus, once a fan, started making unkind comments after he and Grant got married.
“I told him, ‘If you met her, you’d never say anything bad about her,’” Gill stated. In that heated moment, he made it clear that he’d either resolve the issue or take a more aggressive approach if necessary.
After that exchange, Gill said he heard Imus on air later expressing surprise at how much he appreciated him, revealing that they maintained a friendship until Imus’s passing in late 2019.
In her conversation with Fox News Digital, Grant expressed gratitude for Gill’s presence, especially during challenging times, including her unexpected open-heart surgery in 2020 and a bike accident in 2022 that impacted her memory.
Recalling her bike accident, Grant shared, “My short-term memory was really off. There were so many things I just couldn’t recall.” She described a moment of vulnerability where she asked Gill if this was all she had left. His response was comforting: “We’re just going to take each day as it comes, and that’ll be enough.” This assurance, she said, is something he conveys consistently.
Grant reflected on her deepening connection with Gill over the years. “We’ve just learned more about each other day by day. I love him more now than ever.” She acknowledged that navigating life together reveals new aspects of their relationship.
Gill and Grant tied the knot in March 2000, welcoming their daughter, Corrina, shortly after. Their love story began in 1993 while they were both still married to other people, but they eventually became a couple in 1999 after both went through significant transitions in their personal lives.
Additionally, Grant shared her experience at the Dove Awards where she paid tribute to Dolly Parton alongside singer Natalie Grant. Despite feeling daunted by the challenge of honoring such an icon, she appreciated the opportunity and the support from her fellow performer.
“It was a meaningful experience for both of us,” she concluded, reflecting on the honor of sharing a stage in tribute to Parton.
