Violent street fight breaks out during upscale Christmas event in Nantucket

They adorned the hall and each other.

A festive Christmas gathering in Nantucket spiraled into chaos as men clad in Ralph Lauren and Burberry outfits clashed shortly after Santa Claus made his entrance, according to shocking video footage.

This brawl erupted Saturday afternoon on Federal Street during the 51st annual Christmas Walk on the Massachusetts island. Hundreds had turned up to explore local shops in one of the priciest small towns in America, as reported by Nantucket Current.

In a dramatic clip shared with the news outlet, around a dozen men, aged between 20 and 60, were filmed arguing and shoving each other right in the middle of the street before breaking off into smaller groups, at which point the conflict escalated further.

“Suddenly, there were two factions,” an eyewitness recounted, stating the situation felt reminiscent of the Jets and Sharks from ‘West Side Story,’ but in designer clothes. “It was like 20s versus 60s.”

In one segment of the melee, a younger fighter shoved an older gentleman aside. In another chaotic scene, a young man was seen hitting a man in a stylish brown trench coat in the back of the neck, prompting another individual to jump in to defend him.

At one point, as a black SUV was parked on the thoroughfare, one participant was slammed to the ground when an older man chased a younger counterpart, attempting to throw a punch.

Disturbing footage showed several men pursuing one another, throwing punches and pushing each other while frantic bystanders tried to intervene.

“It was madness,” an observer remarked, echoing the sentiments of others in the vicinity.

It’s unclear what ignited this quarrel among the sharply dressed individuals.

The incident occurred just after hundreds gathered on nearby Main Street to enjoy a festive parade featuring Santa at a seasonal street fair over the weekend.

Nantucket police arrived on the scene around 2 p.m., but no arrests were made and those involved faced no charges, according to the report.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter.
