Susanna Gibson Payne, a Democrat from Virginia, was arrested on domestic violence charges following a contentious Capitol race.
The 42-year-old nurse faced arrest on September 22 for “Assault and Battery – Family.” She accuses her husband, 44-year-old John David Gibson, of falsely accusing her. Gibson claims he has been harassing her since initiating divorce proceedings.
“After my estranged husband was arrested multiple times since filing for divorce, he retaliated by pressing criminal charges against me. This occurred after an incident during a custody exchange in June 2025. More than three months later, a misdemeanor warrant was issued for my arrest, which I immediately contested,” she explained.
“Survivors need a justice system that understands abuse dynamics and prioritizes our safety. It shouldn’t enable abusers to manipulate the legal system for control,” she continued. “I’m a mother and a survivor, navigating a process that often punishes those seeking safety.”
Records indicate that John Gibson had been arrested several times in the previous December for breaching protection orders and for threatening behavior.
Susanna Gibson’s political ambitions took a hit in 2023 after a live-streamed video of her sexuality was leaked. This footage, originally recorded on a platform called Chaturbate, went public without her knowledge. She clarified that she never intended to profit from it, describing her actions as fulfilling her husband’s fantasies.
“This doesn’t intimidate me, and it won’t silence me,” Gibson asserted.
She also alleged that the leak infringed upon Virginia’s Revenge Porn Act, emphasizing her belief that her political adversaries are willing to cross serious lines to attack her and her family.
Gibson remarked later that the leak seemed intended to humiliate her. “I feel like I’ve undergone significant personal growth and expertise through this ordeal,” she noted. “Political operatives found these explicit videos and sought to disseminate them in a way that would degrade and threaten me.”
