Virginia men's basketball reportedly relies on its opponents from the past.
According to various reports, Includes athleticsthe Cavaliers are expected to hire Ryan Odom from VCU from the University of Maryland Baltimore County team that surprised Virginia at the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Odom led VCU to the NCAA Tournament in his second season in the Atlantic 10 program.
He steadily moved his college basketball ranks. He began running in 2016 for unreleased UMBC. He became the first 16 seed to defeat the first seed, and competed in a school's best ever NCAA tournament appearance when Virginia was destroyed in one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport.
Odom stayed at UMBC until 2021 and made his leap to Utah.
Like VCU, he lasted two seasons, cracking the NCAA Tournament in his second season and climbing into a bigger program.

Odom, now a native of North Carolina and son of longtime Wake Forest and South Carolina head coach Dave Odom, will be near his home.
The Cavaliers hope to find a true alternative to Tony Bennett. Tony Bennett has shocked the world of college basketball by resigning shortly before this season, causing him to be frustrated at a time when he doesn't feel he's not equipped.
Associate manager Ron Sanchez took over and led Virginia into the 15-17 season.
