Virginia Giuffre died of one of the most prominent victims of Jeffrey Epstein, a dishonest American investor who claims to have been sex trafficked by Prince Andrew. She was 41 years old.
Her family issued a statement Saturday, confirming that she took her life on a farm in Western Australia where she lived for several years.
“It is totally broken heart that announced Virginia’s death last night on a Western Australian farm. She lost her life due to suicide because she is a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sexual trafficking,” the statement said.
“In the end, the abuse victims were so heavy that it was unbearable for Virginia to handle that weight.”
Giuffre is one of Epstein’s most vocal victims, and she claims that he and his longtime companion, Gislaine Maxwell, were groomed and sexually abused, starting in her teens.
The family described her as a “fierce warrior” against sexual abuse and sexual trafficking, and a “light that released so many survivors.”
“In spite of all the adversity she faced in her life, she was shining so brightly. She’s been overlooked immeasurably,” they said.
Giuffle is survived by three children, Christian, Noah and Emily, whom her family said were the “light of her life.”
“As she was holding her newborn daughter in her arms, she realized that Virginia had to fight against those who abused her and many others,” they said.
“There is no word that can describe the significant loss we feel today when our sweet Virginia dies. She is heroic and is always remembered for her incredible spirit of courage and affection.”
Giuffre’s lawyer Sigrid McCawley said she was “more than a client.”
“She was a dear friend and an incredible champion for the other victims. Her courage pushed me to fight harder, and her strength sparked awe,” Macquarie said.
“The world has lost the amazing human beings of today. My sweet angel, rest in peace.”
Giuffre’s president Dini von Muuffling said she was “one of the most extraordinary people I have ever known.”
“Deeply loving, clever and funny, she was a beacon for other survivors and victims. She adored children and many animals,” she said.
“She has always been more interested in me than herself. I miss her beyond words. It was a lifelong privilege to represent her.”
Earlier this month, Giuffre posted on social media that he only lived there for a few days after the school bus crashed into a car.
Western Australia police later confirmed that the 41-year-old woman was in a car that collided with the bus on March 24, but no injuries were reported. Giuffre, submitted to Perth Hospital’s emergency department on April 1, is understood.
Giuffle, an American, said he met Maxwell, a British socialite, in 2000 while working as an assistant in the locker room at Donald Trump’s Mar Lago Resort in Florida.
Maxwell offered her a job as a massage therapist to Epstein, during which she claimed that she had been trafficked by investor friends and clients.
Under the pseudonym “Jane Doe 102,” she alleged in a 2009 civil lawsuit against Epstein, which included being “sexually exploited by Epstein’s adult male peers, including royalty.” Giuffre reached a settlement with Epstein in that case before he was brought to trial.
In 2021, Giuffre filed a civil suit against Prince Andrew in federal court in New York, alleging that she sexually assaulted her three times when she was 17.
Andrew repeatedly denied the accusation.
In the lawsuit, Giuffre alleges that Epstein and Maxwell introduced her to Andrew in 2001, claiming that Maxwell forced her to have sex with Andrew.
In 2022, Andrew and Giuffre agreed to an out-of-court settlement for a private amount.
Maxwell, who maintains her innocence, was sentenced to 20 years in 2022 for sex trafficking.
Epstein was arrested by federal authorities in July 2019 and charged with counting sex trafficking. Shortly afterwards, he died of suicide while awaiting trial.
