Virginia Pastor Dies from Severe Burns following Firepit Explosion

A Northern Virginia pastor died from his injuries after a gas can explosion destroyed 60% of his body.

according to christian postPastor Kevin Corey was burning papers in the fireplace of his Newington-area home when a gas can accidentally exploded around 8:30pm last Wednesday.

Corey’s daughter, Jenna Guercia, said: “I’m so happy that my son’s pain is gone and his body is recovering, but I’m heartbroken.” I have written. “There are not enough words to describe the impact he had on my life and the lives of so many people.”

Corey previously served as youth pastor at Calvary Road Baptist Church in Alexandria and later became senior pastor at another church.around church leadersThe late pastor and his wife had planned to move to Glasgow, Virginia, about 320 miles away, to be closer to Guercia.

At the time of the incident, neighbors heard an explosion coming from Corey’s home.

“I saw him adding the accelerant, which happened to be a gas can. Then I heard a loud explosion. The gas can exploded in his hands because it was too close to the fire. ” said one of the neighbors who recorded the incident. Recorded in real time.

“Unfortunately, the gas canister splattered all over his body and you could see him fall to the ground. And then the fire followed him and he was on fire.”

Corey’s wife immediately tried to put out the fire with a rug and tried to help her husband.

“The last thing I hear on my Ring camera is, ‘I’m alive, I’m alive,'” the neighbor said.

In a post after the incident, Guercia said her father was initially scheduled to undergo surgery to treat his burns and was sedated on and off. Despite being responsive to both her wife and daughter, Corey’s condition worsened over the next few days.

He then underwent dialysis and antibiotics to combat kidney and lung failure. But a few days later, Corey died at the age of 57.
