Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly passes away following his fight with esophageal cancer

Representative Gerald E. Connolly, a Democrat from Virginia, has passed away after a long and difficult battle with cancer, as his family announced on Wednesday. He was 75 years old and had received his diagnosis of esophageal cancer over six months ago.

In a heartfelt statement, his family shared, “It is with great sadness that we report our dedicated and loving father, husband, sibling, friend, and civil servant has passed away peacefully at home this morning.” They described him as someone who dedicated his life to helping others, especially those who were voiceless and disadvantaged. “Jerry always aimed to do what was right. He was an adept politician on the global stage. He embraced his communities—in places like Silverline, the Oakton Library, the Mosaic District, and the Cross County Trail—leaving a lasting impact on our area,” they added.

This is still a developing story; please look for updates soon.
