Virginia woman arrested after swinging medieval sword at cop, neighbor

A Virginia woman is accused of brandishing a medieval sword at a police officer and another person.

The Leesburg Police Department announced Monday that officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Road on Feb. 8 to execute a warrant against Alexandra C. Hopkins, 35.

After the officers encountered Hopkins, she brandished a sword more than a foot and a half long at one of them and fled into a residence, police said in a news release.

Mr. Hopkins was taken into custody without incident.

Neighbors told police that Hopkins also brandished a sword at them.

No injuries were reported in connection with either incident.

Hopkins was charged with one count of assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of assault and two counts of brandishing a weapon. She also has two unrelated warrants from other agencies.

She was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond.
